We are pleased to announce that both Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital Transitional Care Units have achieved the highest overall ratings of 5/5, earning them the distinction of “High Performing” for short-term rehabilitation by U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News & World Report, the global authority in health care rankings and consumer advice, evaluated almost 15,000 nursing homes and transitional care units to help you find and compare them to get the best care for yourself or your loved one. The latest edition recognizes fewer than 20% of the evaluated U.S. nursing homes as “Best Nursing Homes” in “Short-Term Rehabilitation,” “Long-Term Care,” or both.
To calculate the Best Nursing Homes ratings, U.S. News evaluated each nursing home’s performance using a variety of quality measures obtained from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The U.S. News Best Nursing Homes proprietary ratings methodology factors in resident care, safety, outcomes, and other aspects of quality – including data on nurse staffing levels, consistency, and retention, as well as the use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing ER visits.
Alfred Arcidi, Senior Vice President of Whittier Health Network, called the ratings “proof of our organization-wide commitment to provide safe, high-quality care, treatment, and services on an ongoing basis. I am extremely proud of the dedication and professionalism of the staff at our two TCUs for earning this distinction.”
Whittier’s Transitional Care Units specialize in aggressive, short-term rehabilitation for those patients who require additional time to transition home after a hospital stay or surgery. Located right inside our Bradford and Westborough rehabilitation hospitals, the expert daily care of our physicians, nurses, and physical and occupational therapists helps our patients to return home as soon as possible and to function independently and at the highest level possible. The state-of-the-art facilities have LCD flat-screen TVs for each patient, and Wi-Fi access is available to all patients and visitors.
Whittier Bradford Transitional Care Unit in Bradford, MA, is a 20-bed unit with an overall rating of 5 out of 5 and a short-term rehabilitation rating of High Performing. Whittier Westborough Transitional Care Unit in Westborough, MA, is a 19-bed unit with an overall rating of 5 out of 5 and a short-term rehabilitation rating of High Performing.
“Since 2009, U.S. News’ annual Best Nursing Homes analysis has supported American consumers and their families in making more informed decisions about the quality of care for their loved ones,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis and managing editor at U.S. News. “These facilities set the standard for quality care and should be commended for their commitment to improving the lives of their residents.”
