Masconomet Healthcare Center’s overall CMS star rating was recently updated and we have earned the highest Overall Five-Star rating for delivering quality care and customer satisfaction to our residents and patients! This overall rating is based on a nursing home’s performance on three sources: health inspections, staffing, and quality measures.
Masconomet Healthcare Center Administrator Brook Griffin said: “Between the increasingly stringent regulatory requirements and the pre-existing staffing crisis that was exacerbated by the pandemic, obtaining a 5-star rating by CMS is not an easy accomplishment. In order to receive this rating, a skilled nursing facility must have a strong DPH/CMS health and safety inspection history, high quality measures, and above average staffing levels.
Achieving the highest possible rating for a Skilled Nursing Facility is well-deserved at Masconomet. The continuous dedication to quality care by all the staff is what made this possible, and we are so lucky to have them all on our team.”
CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families, and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which you may want to ask questions. The Nursing Home Care Compare web site features a quality rating system that gives each nursing home a rating of between 1 and 5 stars. Nursing homes with 5 stars are considered to have much above average quality and nursing homes with 1 star are considered to have quality much below average.
No rating system can address all of the important considerations that go into a decision about which nursing home may be best for a particular person. Examples include the extent to which specialty care is provided (such as specialized rehabilitation or dementia care) or how easy it will be for family members to visit. Consumers should therefore use the Web site together with other sources of information for the nursing homes (including a visit to the nursing home) and State or local organizations (such as local advocacy groups and the State Ombudsman program).
Leo Curtin, Whittier Health Network Director of Operations, added: “Based upon the high degree of difficulty in achieving a CMS Five star rating, and following an intense survey process lasting up to five or seven days by multiple highly-qualified surveyors, I want to congratulate the staff at Masconomet, the corporate support team, as well as the residents and their family members. Masconomet continues to be one of the premier skilled nursing facilities on the North Shore and will always strive to provide the highest quality of care.”
